EU countries to start keeping 'green balance sheets'

The European Parliament has backed new legislation on June 7th requiring EU countries to harmonize national reporting data on air pollution, green taxes and raw material flows in order to build up Europe-wide “environmental economic accounts”. While the new legislation may sound rather technical it has tremendous political significance.
