Explosion and fire at French Tricastin Nuclear Plant

Residents reported thick black smoke. The nuclear power plant Tricastin has 4 pressurized water reactors of 915 megawatts and is in operation since 1981. In July 2008 18000 liter of water with natural uranium escaped in ground water. In total this amounted to 30m3. Tests of ground and surface water show radioactivity level of 5% higher then maximal allowed.
